Tue, 22 Jul 2008 14:13:38 -0500
The adage that reads, "Go west, young man, go west" should be modified to advise going to the far west of Arizona to Lake Havasu City. This area is deservedly known as Arizona's beach resort city. The majestic Colorado River, at this point in its 1400+ mile journey, has been dammed to form Lake Havasu with an expansive 25,000 acres. Thinking About Children and Your Hotel
Wed, 16 Jul 2008 08:56:41 -0500
Taking your children on holiday with you is challenge enough at the best of times, but when it comes to booking hotel rooms, there are a certain number of points that are important to bear in mind prior to making your reservation to help ensure that everything goes smoothly. Some hotels provide ample facilities for accommodating your children. Depending upon how young your children are this could involve the provision of cots, high chairs, children's beds and bedding.

Keeping Items Secure in Hotels

Today a significant number of people who visit hotels take with them items that are considerable valuable. This can include cameras, video cameras, mobile phones and even laptops. It is therefore very important that you make sure that the hotel you are staying at is prepared to provide a level of security which will ensure that these items remain safe.

Road Or Air Travel This Summer
Wed, 16 Jul 2008 08:55:30 -0500
The rising cost of fuel is not only affecting consumers at the pumps but it's also starting to affect the airlines and recently there has been a huge decline in the airline industry. The decline comes mainly from American airlines that had too many employees and planes running during these times of high fuel.

Healthy Driving Big Topic in Canada
Wed, 16 Jul 2008 08:50:20 -0500
A huge topic that is being widely discussed right now in many parts of the world but mainly in Canada right now is to make driving healthier. For all of you smokers out there this will affect you deeply and I feel it's sort of entering a restriction zone on people's rights.

The Luggage We'd Like to See Developed Tomorrow
Wed, 16 Jul 2008 08:32:34 -0500
Let us be purely fanciful for a moment and imagine that we have been given the task of designing the kinds of luggage that travellers will be using sometime in the undetermined future. In the ideal world with science and technology blazing a path through all our lives, how would it help us to see scientists address some of the more basic desires of the average tourist? For those of us still excited by the advent of wheels at the bottom of a suitcase, perhaps we could imagine the science of Star Trek built in to the...

Advice on Packing Your Children's Luggage
Wed, 16 Jul 2008 08:31:47 -0500
It will depend of course on the age of the children you are taking with you on your holiday. In the case of very young children, it almost certainly preferable to pack the majority of their items in your own case. With very small children it will also be important to have certain items in your carryon bag.

Luggage and Liquids - How to Survive
Tue, 15 Jul 2008 16:42:34 -0500
Today, because of the increased security required at most airports, the carrying on board of liquids is significantly reduced. In order to prevent problems whilst boarding you would be well advised to contact the airline well in advance of your intended day of travel to obtain an up to date description of what liquids you are allowed to take, and also in what quantities. Generally most airlines today will limit you to 100 ml per liquid or per canister.

Maintenance Free Packing Means a Happier Holiday
Tue, 15 Jul 2008 16:41:06 -0500
After a long, tiring and arduous journey, you eventually arrive at your destination. Almost certainly the last thing you intend to do is to whip out the ironing board and iron you happened to bring with you, and spend an hour or two sorting out the disaster zone that used to b your wardrobe. Unfortunately it is often the case that due to a combination of poorly chosen clothing and inappropriate packing, very often clothing arrives in a seriously disheveled way, giving you a choice of either appearing as though you traveled yourself in the baggage compartment, ...

Packing Clothes For Modesty and Versatility
Tue, 15 Jul 2008 16:13:53 -0500
Very often when people are packing for their holiday and they are thinking about clothes, the one thing that will dominate any decision that they will make will most usually be the size or volume of the clothes that they are planning to take. In some cases they may also consider the sorts of outfits that they would like to see themselves in or that they would like to show off. Particularly that new outfit purchased recently that would look fantastic on an evening out at a posh restaurant.

Thinking About Weight and Volume
Tue, 15 Jul 2008 16:12:55 -0500
The problem with luggage is that is both big and heavy, or at least usually is. In most cases, reducing one, the size, will reduce the weight, but not always. In any case, reducing the size, and reducing the weight doesn't necessarily help to improve the overall success of your luggage skills.

How to Arrive Uncreased and Presentable
Tue, 15 Jul 2008 16:08:32 -0500
It often seems that no matter how hard you try, your carefully folded clothes packed away into your case before you left for your holiday, somehow arrive looking ten years older and entirely unwearable. This has considerable impact on the smart evening out to a classy restaurant that you were planning for your first evening. So is it possible to arrive with your clothes looking presentable?

Gravity and Your Luggage Working Together
Tue, 15 Jul 2008 16:03:14 -0500
It seems that the more we travel, the more we love to take with us, with luggage and bags becoming increasingly taller and larger and lighter. With new advances in technology, the casing of a suitcase today is much stronger and more durable than that used in older suitcases, and is considerably lighter. This results in greater space for packing in your beloved possessions.

Religion, Clothing and Your Luggage
Tue, 15 Jul 2008 15:58:29 -0500
Apart from the well seasoned and experienced traveler, an issue that should concern us all when packing our luggage but which is frequently overlooked is that of the religious expectations or cultural standards held by the people of the country we are visiting. Some people indeed are of the belief that when you are in Rome you should do as the Romans do. In other words, whatever the dress code and cultural values of the people are, you should do as much as you possibly can to respect these traditions and values.

Travel Tips and Tricks

Bruneau Dunes State Park
Wednesday, June 27, 2007
Destination: Bruneau, ID Bruneau Dunes State Park Eagle Cove Campground Site 90 When I booked my reservation online, I was surprised to see that the Eagle Cove Campground was virtually wide open with just one reservation; while the nearby Broken Wheel Campground was nearly sold out. And that was perfect for me since I was taking a large group of campers with me, making it easy for everyone to make their own reservations and still have us all be centrally located on the same loop. I learned later why this campground was wide open, and the other nearly fully booked....

Holiday Travel Reminders
Tuesday, November 21, 2006
It is estimated that 25 million travelers will take to the skies this Thanksgiving weekend. With elevated security measures in place at airports across the nation, the Transportation Security Administration is taking steps to make sure everyone understands the rules. The big change from years past is the whole issue of taking liquids on board flights. Ever since the failed terrorist plot in England this past summer, the TSA has cracked down on all liquid items. TSA's education campaign calls it 3-1-1, meaning you can now take containers of up to three ounces of liquid, in a one-quart Ziploc bag...

National Threat Advisory: HIGH
Thursday, August 10, 2006
The U.S. threat level is raised to Severe, or Red, for all commercial flights flying from the United Kingdom to the U.S. The U.S. threat level is raised to High, or Orange for all commercial aviation operating in the U.S., including international flights.

Three-Island Crossing
Saturday, July 22, 2006
The Oregon Trail was the scene of one of the greatest migrations of people in this country's history. Over 50,000 men, women and children (some historians say as many as 300,000) traveled over the 2,000 mile trail in search of a better life in Oregon. History tells us that traveling the Oregon Trail was difficult. At what is now Three Island State Park, the emigrants had a difficult decision to make. Should they risk the dangerous crossing of the Snake, or endure the dry, rocky route along the south bank of the river? The rewards of a successful crossing were...

Crazy, Like a Fox
Thursday, July 13, 2006
Destination: Donnelly, ID Lake Cascade State Park West Mountain Campground Site 156 For the record, Site 156 is not the worst site in the West Mountain Campground; but it is easily the worst spot that is large enough to accommodate an RV, which explains why it was the only RV site not reserved a full 9 months in advance, and why we were able to obtain a reservation for that site on such short notice, on a busy Independence Day 4-day weekend. We?ve been working very hard in recent weeks to make repairs to the RV, including replacing an entire...

Accidents Happen
Sunday, April 30, 2006
If you?ve ever been involved in a serious accident, you know how easy it is to say or do the wrong thing in the moments that follow. Here?s a checklist to help you make the right decisions when your life gets out of control. 1. STOP. Stay calm. DO NOT leave the scene of the accident (unless you fear for your life). If possible, move your car to the side of the road for safety until the police arrive. 2. CALL 911. Call for an ambulance if there are, or even if you suspect that there could be injuries. Many...

The High Price of Gas
Friday, April 28, 2006
It seems that, at least here in the US, we?ve all had about enough of the current prices at the pump. It also seems that every time the price gets to about where it is now, people start circulating schemes via email, and MySpace Bulletins, to somehow put it to the gas companies. But they all lack the one thing that could actually do the gas companies harm, and actually do the rest of us some good. All of them except one, that is. We?ve all seen the emails that suggest we don?t buy gas on a certain day. Most...

Standing Room Only
Tuesday, April 25, 2006
I?m not a small man. Nor am I what you?d call super-sized, either. But when I?m seated in coach on your average airliner, particularly if I?m seated next to someone about my size, I do find myself feeling a little like what I imagine a sardine might feel like all jammed up in that tiny little can. But things could be worse. According to the New York Times, Airbus is reportedly pitching a Standing Room Only (SRO) ?seating? option for it?s new A380 to Asian carriers. If Airbus is successful in it?s pitch, airline travel could actually get even more...

Be Prepared
Sunday, April 16, 2006
Those that know me best know that I?m notoriously prepared anytime I venture into Idaho?s mountains. Some might even call me over-prepared. But it?s easy, very, very easy to screw up and find yourself in a situation that you weren?t prepared for. It?s even easier than you think, and it just happened to me this past Friday. Idaho experienced record snowfall this past winter, as did much of the Northwest. And while all that snow made for excellent skiing, it?s now melting; and all that water has to go someplace; it?s all been traveling downhill; and it?s all been creating...

Soaring Prices
Wednesday, April 12, 2006
On Monday I read about a sale at United Airlines offering unbelievably low fares. So I searched all the markets that I regularly monitor for a reduction in fares. Much to my dismay, all of those markets were up a few bucks. Yesterday I got notices that, in all of the city pairs that I regularly monitor, the ticket prices had increased an average of about $100 each. Still more dismay. The unbelievable sale, like most things that are too good to be true, was short-lived and virtually unobtainable. And what little truth there was to be found in that...

And Still They Suck
Monday, April 10, 2006
Jill Aldape recently traveled to Cancun, mostly aboard America West, with her family, for a wedding. "We got to the airport in plenty of time, we're checking our bags and our first hint that something was wrong was when the ticket agent said this flight is overbooked," said Juliana Aldape. Their flight was overbooked, and despite confirmed reservations, the Aldapes were involuntarily bumped from the first leg of their flight. America West gave the Aldape family some travel vouchers and suggested they drive 300 miles to Salt Lake City to catch a different connecting flight to Denver. "That presented a...

Airline Service Still Declining
Monday, April 03, 2006
People are flying again. In fact, people are flying as often today as they were prior to 9/11. But service has declined since 9/11, and it shows no signs of getting any better, anytime soon. Meals are history; some airlines charge for their crappy snacks; flights are hopelessly crowded; there are fewer flights to choose from; and according to a recent study by the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Wichita State University, there is only a 77.3% chance that you?ll actually arrive on time. That report also says that Customer Satisfaction last year was at it?s lowest since 2000....

The Upgrade Game
Thursday, June 02, 2005
Have you ever noticed that when you rent a car, assuming that you are renting in a class that leaves room for an upgrade, you?ll almost always be offered an upgrade of your reserved class for something paltry like $4 a day. If you plan for that upgrade when you make your reservation, that?s your chance to save some money! For example, I recently made a 5-day business trip to Tennessee with three other people. We knew we?d need a large car such as an SUV or Mini-Van to comfortably accommodate all of us, and our baggage, on the 4-hour...

Rental Cars
Wednesday, June 01, 2005
If you plan on flying into the Orange County Airport (SNA) for your Disneyland trip, and if you?ll be staying in Anaheim, or at one of the Disneyland Resort Hotels, and if your theme park plans are limited to Disneyland and California Adventure, you might think about skipping the rental car on your Disneyland trip. The Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART) system runs, on the average, every 20 minutes on several different routes through Anaheim and Disneyland during Disneyland?s hours of operation. A 5-Day Pass is just $12 (which gives you one day for free), and kids under 10 ride free...

Hotel Keys
Saturday, May 14, 2005
